Healthy teeth and gums for life start right here

Dental Exams

Your first dental visit will include a comprehensive exam conducted by your dentist. During this initial visit and at your regular check-ups, your dentist will perform the following evaluations.

  • Diagnostic X-rays (Radiographs): These help detect decay, tumors, cysts, bone loss, and assess tooth positions.
  • Oral Cancer Screening: Your dentist will examine your face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.
  • Gum Disease Evaluation: This involves assessing your gums and the bone around your teeth for any indications of periodontal (gum) disease.
  • Tooth Surface Examination: Specialized dental instruments are used to check for decay on your teeth.
  • Examination of Existing Restorations: Your dentist will inspect your fillings, crowns, veneers, and other dental work to ensure they are in good condition.

Dental Cleaning

Professional dental cleanings, including scaling, root planing, and polishing, are performed by Registered Dental Hygienists or Dentists. Your cleaning appointment will typically include a dental exam by your dentist, along with the following:

  • Removal of Calculus (Tartar): Hardened plaque that has firmly attached to the tooth, forming above and below the gum line. Specialized dental instruments are used for removal.
  • Removal of Plaque: A sticky, nearly invisible film that forms on the teeth. Plaque is a colony of bacteria, food debris, and saliva that produces toxins, leading to gum inflammation and periodontal disease.
  • Teeth Polishing: This step removes stains and plaque that brushing and scaling might miss, leaving your teeth smooth and clean.
